[NOTE: My father died when I was very young.  I wrote this poem after gaining a long-desired, deeper understanding.  I am moved to share it because I truly believe that ALL the different “races” in the United States of America, have to a great extent, come to understand that, we are ALL Members of the ONE HUMAN RACE created by Almighty God!]

If Mankind Is Meant To LIVE…

Daddy
    I want to talk with you
I’ve wished I knew you longer
Memories are faint
    more precious than none
Enshrouded by timeless mists
    ’til now

Suddenly
    the legacy is clear
You knew the thirst
for White Man’s Knowledge
    must be quenched
I’ve wanted nothing more
    to know

Writing
    links my soul to Life
Your soul speaks still
Words calling forth
    in silence
Link your soul forever
    to my life

Freedom
    OUR Heritage from Earth
We’d learned to live so well
amidst God’s vast creations
    then White Man came
evil invaded – riding their ships
    of plague

Knowledge
    rode in bold evidence
In many awesome ways
Your fathers saw the future
    Red and White to merge
But first the challenge to
    survive

God
    tests with White Man’s evil
to forge the best
Rewards by adding to us
    knowledge
We had to learn to
    fly

And
    not to make men slave
Had to learn the rocket
to pass from Earth
    on painted wings
But White Man knows not
    Freedom

My
    creations must come forth
Symphonies of Freedom with
the orchestra Mankind
    None will make the ships
if none could CHOOSE
    to fly

Our Way of Freedom
    must meld
